EUROPEAN FINANCING APPROVED TO DEVELOP SECURE AREAS FOR ROAD TRANSPORT IN ITALY (PASS4CORE project)

On Thursday, 16 July, the project ‘Parking Areas Implementing Safety and Security FOR (4) CORE Network Corridors in ITALY (PASS4CORE)’ was definitively approved. The project was presented by a consortium of top-level national players led by A4 Trading, a company in the A4 Holding Group, and partners such as motorway services, transport centres, an airport, private operators, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport through the Central Committee of the Lorry Drivers Register.

The proposed action aims to develop and improve a network of secure and protected lorry parking areas for lorry drivers along the primary road network in Italy. Today, the specific situation in Italy consists of only 2 parking areas certified according to EU standards. The proposed investments therefore represent certain potential for the development of a national strategy.

The activity first entails the involvement of Autoparco Brescia Est with further enhancement of its parking area. Eleven new parking areas for road transport along TEN-T corridors will also be developed, and all will be certified according to the European ‘Safe and Secure Truck Park’ standard.
In parallel, the Ministry will manage activities to coordinate the network of secure lorry parking areas in Italy and develop an app/portal for the overall management of information related to the availability of parking spaces for lorry drivers.

According to Piergiovanni Pisani from A4 Trading, ‘Our role as coordinator in the proposed partnership confirms that our Group is attentive to the needs of the road transport sector. With our area at Autoparco Brescia Est, which opened in 2009 for stopping, sleeping, or parking vehicles comfortably and in complete safety, we have provided over 250 parking spaces with all the services necessary for the safety of people and vehicles.’
